It is my position that people will not just continue to use .com. We have
a definate marketing plan for .web, and fully intend to see .web take a
market position rivaling .com. We're ready to let the market decide.

Because the perception is that additional levels of domains is bad. Whether
this is right or wrong, the market wants x.y instead of x.y.z. Since there
are such a large number of x.y addresses, that's the direction this has
to take. To take all x.y addresses and make them x.y.z is one solution,
but *YOU* tell microsoft.com that they now have to be microsoft.*.com
to level the playing field.
