Maybe not to guess, but to remember - much more so than iodesign.*
As you note, you can fix the problem with search engines, but the
detriments go beyond that.

The "explode the iTLDs" is a broken solution.  It greatly exacerbates
many more problems than it fixes, and numerous parties have make
the same observation.  This no doubt will be clearly evident in the 
public proceeding on these issues in a few weeks.
