The current fees are not significant enough to be a barrier to even those 
who have decided to horde domains, let alone the average company with one 
or two domains.  Without a reasonable way to lookup a domain, .COM will 
remain the venue of choice.  In today's environment, how many people would 
seriously consider adopting a new company name if it was already taken in 
.COM?  I wouldn't.  That is, unless I was able to obtain a US Trademark, 
and knew that the owner of the domain did not have a valid trademark from 
another country...   ;-)
