I have an idea (probably not a good one, but an idea nonetheless) for
the registry acceptance process. I think it should be open, like the
RFDs of Usenet. Post and solicit comments and votes from the general
public. It's probably not a good idea to place much weight on this, but
it could at least be a way to get input from the Net (maybe previous
customers or people with other contact with the organization in question)
on the quality of that organization. Or at least its reputation.
