People want an alternative to NSI which is today amonopoly. Based on
mail on various lists I would say that the pressure is there.  It is
not my imagination.

Yes there are many cases where companies work together.  But even large
and mature companies like Cabletron and Cisco can get into a mud slinging
match (see the trade press for the past 2 weeks).

Good point and I will try to remember it.  Perhaps if more people on the
list who agree with that last sentence where to come forward and state
their opinions we could move forward.
