Well I for one being based in the British Isles am not under the jurisdiction of Uncle Sam, and can therefore state from a totally unbiased perspective that IMO Johnny Cannuck most definitely does NOT speak for the silent majority including non US citizens.
Those of us with any sense or realism and indeed knowledge, fully accept and respect the fact that the Internet originated in the USA, and that the USA have chosen to make this resource available globally for the benefit of all Internet users in the World. It is obvious therefore that the existing Internet authorities would be historically located in the USA, and I for one don't have any problem with that. Most technological innovation - certainly in the computing and networking arena - does after all originate from the USA and the remainder of the World benefits from it. If there is to be a central authority to determine issues such as iTLD's it is entirely appropriate that the USA should be the location for same. Lest we also forget - for many years the registering of TLD's in ".com", ".net, ".org" etc. was provided free of charge to the whole world entirely at Uncle Sam's expense. Does Johnny Cannuck refuse to use computers with Intel processors and Microsoft operating systems based upon the same views - I suspect not.
JC (who apparently would like to think that his initials derive from the person of biblical fame) IMO has a perspective that is both biased and prejudicial, and which is nothing whatsoever to do with the meaning and objectives of this mailing list, or indeed representative of the World at large who appreciates the role of USA based resources and technologies for the Internet.
As far as I am concerned the iTLD resolution is a matter for those that control the root servers (and should continue to do) i.e. IANA - and those that seek to claim otherwise, or otherwise seek to undermine the process are not in touch with reality. The Internet at its current levels, and for the future, needs stability and order, and not a state of anarchy bought about by erstwhile Internet guerillas.
Adrian.

Dear Uncle Sam -
We are very grateful for your
"largess". Now get the heck out
of the way so we can make our own
darned NICs and stop sending our
precious hard currancy to subsidize
your freaking monopoly. We've given
you a gift of many millions of
dollars and you should be grateful.
Unless you would like us to begin
routing around Kybo America please
stop behaving like the owner
of earth.general just because
you were there first, eh?
Sincerely,
Johnny Cannuck
