registry sharing (Re: don heath's comments )

In a private discussion with an IAHC member I learned about the iTLD sharing
argument. Every argument in favour of sharing boils down and leaves us needing
to share ALL registry names. Therefore the list of iTLD's and the list of
people in the registry business would be completely unrelated to each other.

DNS UPDATE should facilitate this nicely.

The right approach to sharing is to make sure that all iTLD registries (which
would include, significantly, Network Solutions) sign a contract that says they
know the iTLD is not their property and that they will eventually be required
to share it with others when the technology works itself out.

(This ought to put a crimp in the people who think they can get a leg up on
the other registries simply by camping onto a name that will have some kind
of perceived value. Since I despise that kind of thinking I'm happy to see
these lowlife weenies put out of business before they can even start up.)

But more importantly it will result in a more robust system where IANA escrow
of registry data becomes the fundamental method by which all names are created.

I'm not on iahc-discuss so you'll have to CC me on your reply if you want me
to see it.
