One hopes the experimental registries have also been patiently
waiting for the IANA/IAHC to provide a general solution, and
specifically have sent letters asking to be added the the list of people
interested in proceeding with the then-proposed process.
If they didn't, they'd be rather foolish!
Similarly, I wouldn't expect them to automatically see
their proposals accepted by the IAHC, or them to have a significant
commercial advantage by the mere attempt at starting something.
And I certainly wouldn't expect the IAHC to bless domains which
have been set up as being entirely outside the purview of the
group. If I were to claim .berd, find 10 like-minded friends and set up
a test implementation, but claim that I thereby own nerd for
all time and no-one can gainsay me, then I should expect to be
treated by the community the same way I would had I set up a ``pirate''
radio station with callsign NERD on a drilling platform somewhere.
And yes, such folk get treated remarkably badly by nearby naval
powers (:-))
