Das, I believe that we are moving towards consensus on this list
with regards to the major issues. I believe that everyone, for the
most part supports a shared-registry model. Interesting, in that
I do not, but that's what compromise is all about. I also believe
that most feel the 60-day wait is a bad idea, and that the lottery
is a bad idea. Slightly less discussed is the item where the IAHC
selects the 7 gTLDs, the points being their selection and the
number 7. This, too, seems a bad idea.
The point I'm going for, however, is that the IAHC draft of the 19th
has been rather soundly shot up. There are some very good parts of
it, and it encapsulates the necessities well. The whole issue of
CORE, operational logistics aside, is a brilliant idea. But quite
a few of the key points of the draft have been shown to have serious
objections by the majority of the voices on this list. It is very
apparent to me that the next draft will either be significantly
different, or the IAHC will demonstrate their complete lack of
interest in discourse-achieved consensus.
My "revised draft" was an effort to synthesize some of the major
concerns with the 19Dec draft into something closer to consensus.
I would like very much to have the list give feedback on my
revised draft, positive and negative, so I can continue to revise
it, perhaps as often as every other day (at this breakneck pace,
which I very much like), until we can reach consensus. At that
point, it can be presented to the IAHC with the compliments of
the list as a true show of the position of the members of this list.
Will someone from the IAHC please officially disclose whether or
not there will be an interim draft? To wait and publish a final
draft at the end of January would not be acceptable in light of
the serious objections to the first.
If the former, then I continue to support this process and will
work to make it succeed. If the latter, I will sadly persue other
action that I am desperately trying to avoid. Either way, I'm in
this to the end. In the meantime, let's see if we can come up with
a working document that the whole list can get behind. Let's make
some compromises and make this process work. Please.
