Why does everyone else seem to want to ignore this desirable side-effect
of the 60-day policy. I, for one, am solidly in favor of the 60-day wait
if only for the fact that it will encourage companies to use the DNS as
it was intended. Why does a movie company need to have volcano.com? They
don't, volcano.mca.com works just as good and also uses the DNS
correctly. It also costs nothing, involves no dilution of anyone's
trademarks, etc., etc.

As far as the DBA argument, what we really need is a modification of the
.us domain to allow freer registration within the states
delegation. Something like xxx.dba.wa.us would allow anyone in
Washington State to open a domain with no waiting period. The reason
that a DBA has no waiting period is because it is a STATE licensing
system. If you want a domain as easily, use a GEOGRAPHIC domain name.
