Scott...you're correct in asserting that the venture does not have to be a
stand alone business.
Whether it's stand alone, or whether it's offered as a value added service
by ISPs, in either case the registry service is still 100% a commercial
endeavor.
If, as a starting point, there is agreement that the proposed new
registries are 100% a commercial endeavor, then we all have a common
starting point on constructing the necessary framework for a purely
commercial enterprise.
I get the sense, however, that a number of others here believe that the
proposed new registries should not be viewed as purely commercial
endeavors.
If anyone believes that the operation of a registry is not 100% a
commercial endeavor, I would appreciate hearing your premise.
