Exactly.  (Or, rather, "approximately", since I would have translated it
as "the thing speaks for itself"--four years of high school Latin not 
having been *entirely* wasted on me.)

The subtlest nuance of the expression is that, used in the fashion that
Perry has been employing it, it cuts both ways..which is why I've been 
content simply to let it stand as an invitation to all observers to make
up their own minds about what's been said.
