IMHO, death threats are like bomb threats in an airport. They should
always be taken seriously and reported to the police no matter how silly
they may seem. You and I are not trained to distinguish real death threats
from idle chit-chat. That is a job for the police.
We also don't know if Simon Higgs has been making death threats to other
people nor can we judge his level of sanity. If the police have received
other complaints about him, your note could be the piece of evidence that
spurs them into action, possibly saving someone's life.
This is not the first time people involved in the TLD debates have issued
death threats. In at least one other instance, the question was asked
whether it should be reported to the police and my answer was
substantially the same. Yes, report it to the police and let them make the
decision whether there is any substance to it or not.
