If service is poor (hard to believe, given allocating domain names is
far from rocket science -- InterNIC's problems are due to load, not
technical complexity), then a self-funding domain name allocating
organization could be viable.  However, I disagree that value added
services take a second seat -- it is the only way smaller ISPs can
compete with the huge ones.
