- Subject: Core Options
It seems we have two options for core functionality. To distribute the
contact information and have the central core DB be a very lightweight
process. The other option is for the core DB to be a more structured
repository for all contact information in the domain name registration
process.
Both options have a very direct impact to the business modle of
a front end regestry. Where core maintains the central repository
the regristration process is going to be nearly equal. If core were
to be a super light weight process, then the regestries could realy
diffrenciate themselves.
The lighter the load on the central core DB the greater the differences
will be in the regestries the more competition. If each regestry has
to implement most of the functionality that NSI has had to, less the
[trival] generation of zone files, the better the business case for a
company that only does registrations.
This is the reason it is important to discuss these matters, as it
directly impacts business plans for a regestrie.
