I believe, at the IRE/PAGAN BOF Bill Manning gave a presentation about
recovering addresses from the 192 address space. They used Whois data
to help locate the contacts for these addresses. They found lots of
the contact data to be bad.
This topic is discussed in several palces in the minutes of the
IRE/PAGAN BOF. (ftp://archive.apnic.net/mailing-lists/pagan/pagan.archive.9701)
One consept that was discussed is that you charge to
keep the data up to date. If the object is not paid for you delete
or make inactive the regestry/contact records.
On Protecting Objects:
No matter how complicated it is, gardian software protects lots of
domains and IMHO its use should be encouraged.
