Hey Boys,
....... we've had a mixed playground since day one!
In the playground over there, I can see the technical boys arguing and
playing "catch me if you can." We all know the rules of the game but
rather than join in ..... I look on with interest.
Then there's the "legal" group. They have a problem they have been
trying to resolve for years. If they can get everyone in the playground
singing, they think they can set the beat, and conduct a harmony. But
there is a problem..... A conflict between what the orchestra can play
and the songs to be sung. The orchestra has been around for hundreds of
years only playing the Statute Symphony. Then I hear a suggestion for a
new game, let each person sing what they want, when they want, in rhythm
to the program of music. If one person sings out of harmony with the
music then they loose.
Who is that on their own? Usually we all play together, but it looks as
if he is sealing off an area of the playground. What is happening?
Oh no ..... John has dropped his box of candy. We would all help him
collect them, but he doesn't want to ask. Now a crowd has gathered and
they are stopping him from leaving, and his friends from entering, his
area without sharing the candy. I wonder why he didn't share his candy
at the start. Sharing always breaks down barriers and barriers inhibit
communication.
Here come the teachers, playtime is over. One last game of catch...,
John has asked to go home early..... and the legal group.... They tried
to negotiate extra time, but the teachers were not going to allow their
school to be drawn into an argument they couldn't win.
And the orchestra keeps on playing......
What's that? Where am I, oh ..... on the fence of course. From here I
can see the whole of the playground and the community outside. If I'm
invited to join the class I can demonstrate my portfolio, if not, I'm
happy to be playing in the community.
As Perry might say:
Iucundi acti labores
(a job well done is real pleasure)
Rgds
Betty.
