- Subject: Q: Generic "Specific" TLDs
As someone brought up to me in email, I would like to clarify/confirm
one thing. The gTLDs that IAHC are talking about generic TLDs that are
truly open to all. Not the "generic-specific TLDs", as I call them, like
.MED, .CAR (ie, like the categories discussed in the HIGGS document),
etc, which are "generic" in that they are open to all who fit some sort
of logical category.
The inital gTLDs that will be created I hope will NOT be the categorical
TLDs but true generic TLDs like .COM and so on. I believe that creation
of categorical TLDs requires expert investigation and careful wording of
admission requirements so as not to leave loopholes which could be abused
by registrars. IE: A librarian and a lawyer.
Just a thought..
