	Kevin,

During his term of office, before he was killed, President Kennedy
was subjected to quite a bit of criticism. Republicans were seriously
unhappy with his policies. At that time, I lived in Dallas and went to a
school dominated by families with a hyper-conservative bent. Needless to
say, the general feeling around campus about Kennedy was vigorously
negative.

So it was interesting that our Young Republican group sent a
contingent to be part of the crowd for Kennedy's visit to Dallas on
November 22. Did they go to jeer? No. They went to communicate a simple,
but essential message. They went to make clear that they understood the
difference between disagreeing with the President, versus respecting the
office.

It is a distinction often lacking on this list. Your response is
an example. The point that Perry was making was not about criticism. It
was about vituperation. Flaming is the latter. It is uncivil and
unproductive.

The problem with flaming is not its recipient. It's with the flamer.
