Well, the REAL goal needs to be world peace and adequate food and
hygiene for all, but we aren't going to achieve that in the next month,
either.

As has been explained numerous times, "reduction of name conflicts"
is in no way guaranteed to reduce challenges. The nature of the complaints
from challengers is that ANY use is not acceptable. (While I can lecture
at length about the nuances of IETF standards process, the preceding
sentence makes obvious that I am not capable of any nuance at all with
legal issues. Clearly, there are uses that ARE acceptable, but not in the
sense that the current discussion is pursuing.)

Reducing name conflicts IS a Good Thing, but because it makes it
more likely that an applicant can use a string they like. It does not mean
that someone else who is using that string will withhold a challenge to the
applicant.
