Speaking of Africa, I went on an unsuccessful "rescue mission" for
the TZ domain (Tanzania). 

An organization (university) in Dar es Salaam contacted me about
setting up the TZ top-level domain. I applied for it, but was ignored

Later, I found out that Randy Bush ( 
if you think this Swiss guy in Rawanda is bad, you should see the
cTLD's that Bush has "acquired").

Now, the people of Tanzania have no say in their cTLD. Their appeals
to the IANA fell on deaf ears. 

Now you know why I am skeptical of ISOC/IAHC.
