- Subject: NetNames Policy Statement on new gTLDs
NetNames, a commercial Internet domain registrar based in London and New
York, has issued a public policy statement concerning the IAHC plan to
establish 7 new top-level Internet domains. We hope to add the perspective
of an operating, profitable, commercial company to the debate. NetNames
believes that this perspective has been sorely lacking. Our entire
statement can be found at:
http://www.netnamesusa.com/gtld-policy.html
NetNames' Policy Statement compares in detail the competing plans (IAHC,
Network Solutions, eDNS) for the creation of new top-level domains.
After participating in the debate over the last two years, *NetNames
supports the IAHC plan* to establish seven new top-level domains under the
rubric of the generic Top-Level Domain Memorandum of Understanding (gTLD-MoU).
While NetNames does not believe that the gTLD-MoU solves all problems
relating to Internet domain names, we strongly feel that gTLD-MoU
establishes an open and participative process that involves ALL interested
groups.
NetNames has worked with the IAHC and its successor group, the iPOC, and
has found the entire process to be open, responsive, flexible, reasonable,
and responsible.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments. I
would appreciate the names and addresses of concerned policy groups or
officials who might be interested in our policy statement.
Best regards to all,
Antony Van Couvering
President
