Despite posturing to the contrary, the IANA is not in a
position to unilaterally decide who or what gets added
to the public root. If they were, it would have already
happend -- and it has *not*!
We are in the middle of a transition from an old Internet
to a new Internet. How the new Internet is governed is now
on the table, and the U.S. Gov't has accepted the responsibility
to make sure that the transition is a smooth one.
The Secretary of Commerce's Office should be issuing a Notice of Inquiry
any day now. This is the process where the true decisions will be made.
