Re: The Internet Way!

Contrary to appearances, the Domain Name Battle is
*not* about domain names. It is about control. It's
about how the Internet will look 20 years from now,
and who will make those decisions.

Over the last couple of weeks, we've had several
events that appear unrelated -- unless they are
viewed as part of the battle over control.

Network Solutions gets bashed for glitch.
Contrary to the bashing they have received, I think
NSI has done a great job with their registry and root
server responsibilities. In the several years that
they have been operational, they have had millions
of users and processed billions of hits. All in all,
they have done a good job.

People complain about some of their policies. People
complain about their high fees. People complain about
their monopoly status. I agree! But the answer is
  more competition, not iPOC/etc. Dictatorship.

iPOC starts accepting applications.
Once again, this is not about domain names. Just take
a look at the status of their "shared registry" code.
According to my sources, not only is it incomplete,
it hasn't even been specified yet.

Alternic takes over www.internic.net.
Although I don't condone what Eugene has done, I
certainly understand it. He's standing in the back
of the class room, and waving his arms furiously as
if to say "hey, look at what's going on over hear!"

To Eugene's credit, his antics have generated interest
in this battle. Over the last couple of days, the
mass media has been asking questions (NBC, ABC). It
is even rumored that ABC will be attending the upcoming
  DNS conference in DC.

In closing, every Netizen has a responsibility to help
get the word of this battle for control of the Internet
out into the Internet community. Some ways you can help:

- Continue to vote a "7" for any MSNBC articles on the
   Domain Name Battle (see below).
- Post your own notices to other discussion groups or
communities that you are a part of. Also, you have
my permission to cross-post any public posting I make.
- If you have a company, issue a press release stating
your position, along with a short summary of the battle
now being waged. You can do this locally, or use one
of the wire services for a state-wide release (<$100)
        http://www.prnewswire.com
        http://www.businesswire.com
- Attend the upcoming DNS conference. Yesterday, there
were rumors that IAHC supporters were going to overrun
the conference. Later in the day, I found out that they
have been quietly promoting the event within their ranks.
For balance, I am urging everyone who can to attend the
   upcoming event.

When this announcement was first posted, the referenced
article was voted into the top ten (reaching as high as #3).
We should continue to support all efforts to educate
Netizens. Some recent articles are:
        http://www.msnbc.com/news/87808.asp
        http://www.msnbc.com/news/88776.asp
So, in the Internet tradition, help get the word out.
Vote a "7" for these and other Domain Name articles.
