  I find it apauling myself!  But you might want to really read
the gTLD-MoU VERY closely.  Once done, the picture of why, may become
much clearer.  Did you see Jay's posting.  That to should also 
help you out as to why as well.  

  As an american, these folks (gTLD-MoU group & signatories) seem
to seek a dominant possition in the DNS name space.  If so, judging
form comments made by several of them, not to mention the personal
attacks on anyone that doesn't agree with them in ALL aspects or
their purposal, their leadership shouldnot and I hope will not
stand.  As Lincoln siad, "a devided house cannot stand."
