Internic is a single point of
failure which could cripple the
entire Internet should the worse
come to pass. Having a mere 12
root name servers is another
critical weakness. Adding CORE
to the picture as a replacement
monopoly point only worsens the
stability and long term durability
of the net.
Ironically creating vastly greater
numbers of Domain name Registries,
Network Information Centres and
Root Servers is the only sensible
solution to our problems. All of
which stem from the incredible
boom in sheer numbers of human
beings using the Internet. The
solution is to create many more
entities to serve these people
*not* restricting services. That
is a sure way to invite netwide
blackouts and blinkoffs.
We all agree the highest tech
standards must be maintained by
any and all Domain name Registries,
Root Servers and IP# Allocation
services. That is crucial to the
smooth functioning of all we have
come to know as the Internet. We
must now all agree to live and
let live... and to allow the model
so successfully applied to the ISP
to apply itself to the namespace.
That simple really...
