The IETF according to many e-mails
is steering clear of the issue of new
domain names. IETF holds this is *not*
a technical issue. They fear legal
 entanglements, realize there really is
no technical question involved here and
 "don't officiate jello wrestling" (as
one IETF funster put it!). That is the
way I interprete their trepidation and
wariness in even approaching this issue.

There are no technical restrictions for
ten thousand or more new domain names
according to Vixie (or was it Postel?).
This is also the implicit opinion of the
IETF. I have Cced all of the above for
definative and public comment on this
specific point to put this question to
rest. Thanks in advance for your comments!
