Challenging Tacit Assumptions

Kindly notice a tacit assumption operating in
gtld-discuss postings. See below the surface.

There is agreement to privatize the Internet.
Governance is privatized in this process, and
what began as a public utility becomes subject
to rulemaking by and for commercial interests.
Such a shift was never put to any public vote.

Representative or direct governance of the Internet
is a natural right of all stakeholders, and all who
have access are stakeholders (perhaps even all those
who do not yet have Inet access) deserve a fair voice
in "global network governance." Why not let democracy,
open interactivity, have an honest chance here before
a paternal top-down "technocracy" is a fait accompli?

Does anyone on this mailing list want a global Internet
constitution establishing open democracy, expanding the
Great Experiment? Who is willing to do more than talk?

In today's interactive world of interdependent economies
and societies, each individual is globally powerful. Our
solo choices always make a difference in the big picture.
Are we at last mature enough for responsible self rule?
Please consider acting on behalf of future generations.
