Bad Logic

Ken & Jon:

As you by now have already been told this is an urban legend .. and you have
probably been told to research such things before forwarding them .. but in
this case (no personal offense) you were VERY gullible because this can be
dismissed even WITHOUT any research...

How would a telephone company know what electronic signals are email and
what are non-email packets of information, they would need to eavesdrop and
dissect and analyze BILLIONS of data packets every day ... then add that
there would need to be a massive database of every domain name and what its
geographic location is ... and even there you would need to know the
location of and identity of MILLIONS of users. Example: What state is
JohnSmith123@AOL.com located in? ... and what city for that matter (calling
Los Angeles from San Francisco is long distance too).

If we (the internet community) had the ability to this we would be able to
also identify every spammer out there instantly ... the technology and
resources just do not exist.

Finally, since US law does not extend beyond our borders the sum total
affect of such a law would be to drive all email users to foreign ISP
companies, destroying a booming part of the US economy .. something our
politicians would never do because they collect business taxes from ISP &
internet related companies (like Cisco) in huge amounts.

So you see, it just is not real.
Look before you leap... Think before you speak.
