ANSWER TO THE GTLD-MOU POLICY OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE =0D
NOTICE-97-02 =0D
=0D
B. GENERAL QUESTIONS =0D
=0D
1. Number of gTLDs =0D
=0D
Generally, how many new gTLDs do you think should be created? =0D
=0D
[0 __] [1-10 __] [10-50 -X- ] [50-150 __] [150 or more __] =0D
=0D
=0D
C. CHOICE OF gTLDS =0D
=0D
1. Review of IAHC-Suggested gTLDs =0D
=0D
How would you rate each of the following gTLD names selected by the IAHC?=
=0D
=0D
a) .firm (intended for businesses, or firms), check one of the below: =0D=

=0D
[strongly approve __] [approve X__] [no opinion __] [disapprove __] [stro=
ngly disapprove __] =0D
=0D
If you disapprove or strongly disapprove, what gTLD would you suggest in =
=0D
place of .firm in this category? ______ =0D
=0D
Special note: A common suggestion is that business term-related gTLDs lik=
e =0D
=2Einc, .corp, .ltd, .plc, .gmbh, .sarl should be selected instead of gen=
eral terms =0D
like ".firm". However, these terms have legal significance and it is typi=
cally =0D
illegal to use them unless the registering entity actually is "incorporat=
ed", =0D
a "limited liability company", a "public listed company", etc. Verifying =
this would =0D
most likely require pre-screening activities by domain name registrars (a=
s is =0D
the case in the UK with plc.uk and ltd.uk) and probably result in increas=
ed =0D
registration costs and submission of proof of related legal status. Also =
note that =0D
since all 2 letter TLDs are reserved for ISO 3166 country code delegation=
s (e.g., =0D
=2Eus, .fr, .au), equivalent business legal abbreviations commonly used i=
n other =0D
languages (e.g., "sa", "sc", "oy", "ab", and "sl") could not be allocated=
=2E =0D
=0D
Considering above, would you still prefer to have legal term gTLDs? [yes=
__] [no__]. =0D
=0D
If so, which ones (in order of preference)? _____________________ =0D
=0D
b) .store (for businesses offering goods to purchase), check one of the b=
elow: =0D
=0D
[strongly approve __] [approve __] [no opinion __] [disapprove X__] [stro=
ngly disapprove __] =0D
=0D
since confusing=0D
=0D
If you disapprove or strongly disapprove, what gTLD would you suggest in =
place of =0D
=2Estore in this category? ______ .shop=0D
=0D
Special note: There have been many suggestions that .store be replaced by=
.shop =0D
which has significance in multiple languages and, unlike .store, has rela=
ted =0D
verb and noun meanings. Do you think .store should be replaced by .shop? =
=0D
[yes_X_] [no__] =0D
=0D
=0D
=0D
=0D
=0D
=0D
c) .web (for entities emphasizing activities related to the World Wide We=
b), =0D
check one of the below: =0D
=0D
[strongly approve __] [approve _X_] [no opinion _] [disapprove __] [stron=
gly disapprove __] =0D
=0D
is however, .net not sufficient for this category?=0D
=0D
If you disapprove or strongly disapprove, what gTLD would you suggest in =
place of =0D
=2Eweb in this category? ______ =0D
=0D
d) .arts (for entities emphasizing cultural and entertainment activities)=
, check =0D
one of the below: =0D
=0D
[strongly approve __] [approve _X_] [no opinion __] [disapprove __] [stro=
ngly disapprove __] =0D
=0D
If you disapprove or strongly disapprove, what gTLD would you suggest in =
place of =0D
=2Earts in this category? ______ =0D
=0D
e) .rec (for entities emphasizing recreation/entertainment activities), c=
heck one =0D
of the below: =0D
=0D
[strongly approve __] [approve X__] [no opinion __] [disapprove __] [stro=
ngly disapprove __] =0D
=0D
If you disapprove or strongly disapprove, what gTLD would you suggest in =
place of =0D
=2Erec in this category? ______=0D
=0D
f) .info (for entities providing information services), check one of the =
below: =0D
=0D
[strongly approve _ _] [approve _X_] [no opinion __] [disapprove __] [str=
ongly disapprove __] =0D
=0D
If you disapprove or strongly disapprove, what gTLD would you suggest in =
place of =0D
=2Einfo in this category? ______ =0D
=0D
g) .nom (for those wishing individual or personal nomenclature, i.e., a p=
ersonal =0D
nom de plume), check one of the below: =0D
=0D
[strongly approve __] [approve X__] [no opinion __] [disapprove _ _] [str=
ongly disapprove __] =0D
=0D
If you disapprove or strongly disapprove, what gTLD would you suggest in =
place of =0D
=2Enom in this category? ______ ".pseudo" or ".pseud" if 6 characters co=
nstitute too long a chain=0D
=0D
Special note 1: Since this gTLD is for individuals and registrations coul=
d number =0D
in the millions, if not hundreds of millions, there is naturally concern =
about the =0D
scaleability of a personal name space gTLD. There have been suggestions t=
hat in order =0D
to improve the scaleability of the .nom name space, a numerical identifie=
r should be =0D
added to the .nom gTLD from the outset (e.g, .nom1, .nom2, .nom3, etc.) D=
o you agree? =0D
[yes_ X _] [no__] =0D
=0D
=0D
Special note 2: There are often suggestions that names like .id, .me, ind=
, or .per =0D
should be used as a "personal" gTLD. Please note the following reasons fo=
r rejecting =0D
these names:=0D
=0D
=0C=0D
=0D
TLD Reason for Rejection=0D
=2Eid .id is already allocated as the ISO 3166 two-letter country code=
for Indonesia =0D
all two-letter top level domain are reserved for future ISO 3166 c=
ountry-code =0D
allocations=0D
=2Eme all two-letter top level domain codes are reserved for future IS=
O 3166 =0D
country-code allocations=0D
=2Eind .ind is the three-letter ISO 3166 country code for India, we con=
sidered it =0D
prudent to hold this code in reserve=0D
=2Eper .per is the three-letter ISO 3166 country code for Peru, we cons=
idered it =0D
prudent to hold this code in reserve=0D
=0D
2. Creation of gTLD Indicating Adult-Oriented Content =0D
=0D
There is often the suggestion made that a dedicated gTLD indicating the e=
quivalent =0D
to a "red-light-zone" would be useful in isolating and filtering adult-or=
iented =0D
content from minors on the Internet. There are differing opinions on how =
effective =0D
this would be. The most common suggestion is the request to create a gTLD=
.xxx. Do =0D
you think that a sort of "red-light-zone" gTLD should be created? =0D
=0D
[strongly approve __] [approve __] [no opinion _ X _] [disapprove __] [st=
rongly disapprove __] =0D
=0D
If you strongly approve or approve, do you think this should be the gTLD =
=2Exxx? =0D
[yes__] [no__]. =0D
=0D
If you have replied "no", what gTLD would you suggest in place of .xxx in=
this =0D
category? ______ =0D
=0D
3. Other Suggestions =0D
=0D
Please make any other suggestion concerning the names of the new gTLDs no=
t covered above. =0D
=0D
a)- the new gTLD ".rec" should rather be split at least in 2 categories,=
one of them indeed dedicated to recreational activities could be ".rec"=
, while the other one, more specifically oriented towards entertainment s=
ervices could, for instance be named ".show";=0D
=0D
b)- the above approved creation of ".info" should preferably also be comp=
leted by the creation of a useful ".press";=0D
=0D
c)- insofar as ".nom" is concerned, could it not be contemplated to adopt=
instead a denomination such as ".person" which, we believe, would prove =
more descriptive than ".nom"?=0D
