Generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD-MOU) Technical Meeting

New York, NY -- September 11, 1997 -- Forty prominent Internet
professionals met in New York, NY to discuss technical issues
concerning the governing of new generic Top-Level Domain Names
(gTLDs).  The discussions focused on the implementation of the Council
of Registrars (CORE), which is planned to be operational by February
7, 1998.  A Request For Proposals, to be drafted, to invite any
interested parties to design and administer the all-important CORE
database system, will be immediately available on September 12.

Participants at this highly productive international meeting included
qualified Internet domain name registrars and other professionals
interested in the unique technical details of  the CORE shared
database/repository system.  The meeting marked another a major step
towards establishing the seven new generic top-level domains.

The generic Top-Level Domains are described further in a Memorandum of
Understanding (gTLD-MOU) submitted to the ITU.  Over 150 major
Internet organizations have signed the gTLD-MOU.  The RFP for the CORE
database drafted in New York last week furthers the project to
establish Internet domain name authority in the public trust.  These
efforts are also described in proposals put forward by IANA, ISOC,
IPOC, PAB, and other Internet organizations.

The Request For Proposals to design and administer the CORE database
system will be issued by September 26th to interested vendors.  The
deadline to submit finished proposals is October 3rd.

Due to the short and critical deadline date, a draft of this proposal
request will be available at http://www.core.gtld-mou.org/  For
